My heart has been troubled today! All this talk about Trayvon Martin made me wanna write a short blog.

For those who don’t know:

“The first phase of the case happened the night of Feb. 26.
Martin, 17, was walking back to his father’s house in a gated community in Sanford, a suburb of Orlando, Fla. He had bought a package of Skittles and an iced tea from a convenience store in the city of about 53,000 residents. A majority of the city’s residents are white; just under a third are black.
[George] Zimmerman, 28, was patrolling the neighborhood when he saw Martin. He called police to report his suspicions and then followed the teenager, though police recordings quote the dispatcher as saying he should stay away.
Moments later, Zimmerman — identified as a Latino by his family, and as white by critics of the subsequent investigation — was in a confrontation with Martin, ultimately shooting the unarmed teenager once, killing him.”

I must say that this is a tragic situation. Martin is dead while Zimmerman is set free. They claim it’s an accident and that Martin looked suspicious. REDICULOUS!

This morning I heard Geraldo Rivera say, “…I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman was.” (For more info, click here). To an extend, I agree that the hoodie was contributed to his death. In the United States of America, we have portrayed the hoodie has the “gansta wear” for too long, particularly the black hoodie. Criminals coincidentally wear black hoodies for reasons I do not know (and I kinda wanna know too). Whenever a young person (especially young black person) walks down the street or goes into a public place, people automatically think that young person is no good, especially when they put the hood on. Seeing as though hoodies are symbolized, it should never mean that people can no longer wear hoodies. Martin, in my opinion, died because he was wearing a hoodie and looked too suspicious!

HOWEVER, I don’t think we should part blame his death on a hoodie! Zimmerman was STILL in the wrong when the police told him to not follow Martin but did it anyways.

That’s all I gotta say about the matter.

I noticed that many people, including the NAACP, are doing everything they can to investigate this tragic end to a young man’s life. EXCELLENT! I also noticed that the concept of a hoodie movement begins to spread throughout the world (#teamhoodie). GREAT IDEA! No one should die over looking suspicious while wearing a hoodie. We’re making a statement that it’s okay to wear hoodies in public without looking like a gangsta. We’re also removing this stereotype and this symbol of the black hoodie.

RIP Trayvon Martin. Justice for your death will be served!
