It’s Day Five of Kwanzaa and today’s principle is

NIA – Purpose

To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness.

I’m not gonna lie, I looked at the fifth principle and thought, “Oohhh I already have thoughts for this one!” What is your purpose in life? What are you going to do to better your purpose? If you don’t have a purpose in life, then find it! Find what you can do with little to no effort at all and go for it, whether it’s hair, makeup, teaching, counseling, etc.

Then I looked at the statement for this principle and realized that there’s more to this statement than just the individual purpose. Take a look at the words collective vocation. What is our collective vocation? Some of us aren’t sure of what it is. Honestly, I’m not completely sure either but I will try to figure it out. I think our collective vocation refers to our work as a community. It takes more than just one person to build up and maintain our community. Even though they play a part, we can’t put all the blame on the government anymore. It is the people who live in their environments that matter. The fight didn’t stop (and shouldn’t have stopped if you think so) during the Civil Rights movement and the Black Lives Matter movement. (Fyi, the BLM movement is more than just police brutality, mkay? Mkay.)

What is our purpose for building up our community? What are some ways in which we can do so? What is our motivation? How can this be done? Can this be done?

That’s all I have! Take care 🙂
