I get the following questions all the time:

“How did you get your hair to look like that?”

“How do you get your hair so curly?”

“What do you use on your hair?”

Therefore, I wanted to write down what I use on my hair in a single blog post!

FYI, I’ve been relaxer-free for 3 years now & I’ve used several products to determine what my hair likes and don’t likes. Between recommendations and self-discoveries, here is a list of what I use in my hair. Some things I use all the time, while others I use on a rainy day to save this awesomeness 😊

Shampoo/Cleanser

  • Creme of Nature Argan Oil Moisture and Shine Shampoo
  • Curls Creamy Curl Cleanser

I know that some naturalistas don’t shampoo their hair and cleanses it with something else, like an Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) rinse, but I shampoo mine! These shampoos have been the best for me. They smell good, cleanses my scalp, and leaves my hair moisturized. Most shampoos I’ve tried either tangle my hair more, leave it stripped and dry, doesn’t clean my scalp, or leaves my scalp burning. I have tried the Clay Wash with bentonite clay, but I’m still trying to figure out whether or not I like it so far. I wanna try rhassoul clay next… I heard it’s better!

Conditioner

  • Curls Coconut Curlada Conditioner
  • Cantu Sulfate-Free Hydrating Cream Conditioner

I haven’t used any Cantu products in a while since exploring other hair brands, but I liked it when I first started out with a twa. These conditioners give good slip and leave my hair soft 🙂 Plus they’re helpful in detangling since my hair is so THICK. Plus they leave my hair smelling gooooood!

Deep-Conditioner

I’m still looking for a good deep conditioner. I’ve tried Creme of Nature’s “Argan Oil Intensive Conditioning Treatment” so far and it’s okay. I wanna try TGIN’s “Honey Miracle Hair Mask” because I heard some good things about it.

Let me know if you have any recommendations!

Co-Wash

  • As I Am Coconut Cowash

Once I tried this one, I never attempted to try anything else. It has good slip, cleans my hair, and gets the job done. Plus it smells good 🙂

Leave-In Conditioner

  • KinkyCurly’s Knot Today
  • As I Am Leave-In Conditioner
  • Creme of Nature Strength & Shine Leave-in Conditioner With Argan Oil From Morocco
  • Alikay Lemongrass Leave-In Conditioner

All of these leave-ins have great slip and makes detangling easier for me… and they smell goooood! Did I mention that my hair is THICK?!

My favorite leave-in from this list is KinkyCurly’s Knot Today because it helps detangle my hair the best.

Twist-Outs

  • As I am Twist Defining Cream

Y’all… this product gives me JUICY curls! My twist-outs turn out to be the bomb and leaves my hair moisturized! Here’s an illustration:

Moisturizer & Curling Cream

  • As I Am DoubleButter Cream
  • Cantu Shea Butter Coconut Curling Cream
  • As I Am So Much Moisture

All of these products have different roles.

The DoubleButter cream gets the job done and I don’t have to keep putting a lot of product in my hair throughout the week.

The Curling Cream defines my curls very well and the So Much Moisture does what it says it was going to do. My hair is still moisturized days after putting any of these products in hair after wash day. The DoubleButter Cream’s moisture lasts longer though. (I do not use these products all at once!)

Oils

  • Argan Oil
  • Grapeseed Oil
  • Avocado Oil
  • Olive Oil
  • Jojoba Oil

When you use all of these oil together into a hot-oil treatment, it’ll have your hair soft and smelling goooood!

FYI, I tried Jamaican Black Castor Oil, but I think I’m allergic to it because my scalp felt like I scratched it before getting a relaxer… back in the day… ☹

Gels, Custards, Pastes

  • Kinky Curly Original Curling Custard Natural Styling Gel
  • Curls Passion Fruit Control Paste

I’ve heard people say they don’t like the curling custard product because it leaves your hair dry. If you use the curling custard, then it will leave your hair dry if you don’t put a moisturizer before applying. It doesn’t dry my hair out once I do that, and my wash n gos still lasts up to 5 days! Since this product is a bit pricey at about $16 at Target, and the one I have was a gift from a friend; so I don’t use this product too often.

The passion fruit control paste tames my frizzy hair when I put it in a pony hair. It’s also been good for edge control… it doesn’t have a super duper hold, but sometimes that’s fine with me.

I tried to be detailed with this blog post. What do you use on your natural hair? I’d love to know and I wanna try more things, preventing myself from being a product junkie in the process! I’ve been doing well so far 😊😉
