Three weeks ago I went to Chicago for the weekend with my mother. She invited me to go with her friends, so since I’ve already went to Detroit, Atlanta, and Las Vegas already, why not make it to one more place. This wasn’t my first time traveling to Chicago, for I’ve went three times prior to this year. The first time I went was when I was a kid with my mother and sister. We went to go see Tyler Perry’s I Can do Bad All by Myself play. I vaguely remember us getting to the play late because we were stuck in traffic and Perry himself made it known that we were late. *lol* The second time I went was when I went with more family members to visit my uncle, who lived on the outskirts of Chicago. I was a little older then but still a kid. Nevertheless I remember a little more of this go-around. We stayed right downtown and went to many different places, including the Navy Pier. That was a fun trip… super cold, but fun nonetheless.

June 2014

The third time was a few years ago when I went with several ladies of my church in the summer. Traveling on a charter bus, it was a day trip of shopping downtown. The whole day was great, until the air conditioner broke on our way back home.

This time I had the opportunity of hanging out with my mother and her friends. This blog post will be about three weeks late, but oh well! *lol* My mother and I didn’t know the exact reason for going in the first place, but it didn’t really matter to us since we were with her friends. Once we got there, we realized that it was for one of her friend’s husband’s birthday and wedding anniversary. Exciting, right?! We stayed on the North side of Chicago, where it was a bit quiet and tourist-free. We went shopping, ate food, and went to someone’s house for dinner. The house was on the west side and it reminded me of the times I went to my great-grandma’s house. Everything was still the way it was and I felt at home. As for shopping I bought a few things, nothing to damage my bank account. I will say that Chicago has inspired me to get a handbag (not sure what it will be yet).

As for the food, I consider myself a foodie… but I would choose food over shopping any day. Additionally, I thought that Chicago was best known for deep-dish pizza, their Chicago-style hot dog, and their popcorn.

Deep-Dish Pizza | Pizza is cool, but what about a pizza so stuffed that you need a fork? That was the case for me when we went to Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria and shared a small vegetarian pizza with my mom. Not sure why I got vegetarian, but it was really delicious. All I had was one slice, which was enough for me!

A Chicago-Style Hot Dog | A chicago-style hot dog is the best way I’ve eaten a hot dog so far. We went to Portillo’s Hot Dogs and got a Chicago dog with all the fixins! I wish we would’ve gotten another one.

Garrett’s Popcorn | Need I say more? This is the popcorn in which you don’t tell people where you’re going to prevent them from asking you to bring some back. It’s that good, so gooooooood.

I had a Blast in Chicago and I hope to see it again sometime. We didn’t do a whole lot but that’s okay. It simply gives me an excuse to go again 🙂

The summer is almost over and the kids are going back to school. Before the year is over, I would like to go on one more trip. I hope it’s possible… I’ll make it possible 😉
