Hello and Good Morning!
So today, I decided to write a blog on what I’m listening to at the moment. In no way is this playlist in order from most favorite to least favorite because I could be all day trying to find one. Nevertheless I was able to narrow down the list to a… few songs… okay I lied. That is nearly impossible to narrow it down to a few songs and I’ve been working all week trying to make my list. So without further adieu, here is the top 20 songs on my playlist 🙂
- Bruno Mars – 24K Magic | I liiiiive for his sound! Bruno has a 20th-century-meets-21st-century-type vibe. The song makes me happy. The lyrics are also catchy and funny to me, and I can’t help but get up and dance when this song comes on… or dance in my car.
- Kimbra – Sweet Relief | It has a funky vibe and a “head bobber” (Yep, I made up a word.) I am bobbing my head throughout the entire. I LOVE the production of the song. Then again, Kimbra has always had a unique sound and this song takes it to another level of production. My favorite part is the end.
- Fat Joe, Remy Ma, & French Montana – Cookin | I have no clue why I like this song. Maybe because I like Remy… Fat Joe’s cool too… Oooor maybe because of the most catchiest part of the song (hence, the name of the song). The lyrics are a bit abrasive, but I like the production of the song. It’s one of those cases in which “I like the background music” *shrugs*
- ArchDuke ft. Jenee Jones – Ama be Happy | The title speaks for itself. I blogged about this song a while back and it’s still on my playlist. (Click here to read)
- Gourdan Banks – Keep You in Mind | I LOOOOVE this song! *begins to sing* “Can IIIIIIIIIIIIII keep you mind… can I (can I)?” This song is always being played on the radio and I’m not tired of the song. It’s a “viber” (Yep, I made up another word.) I can vibe to this all day.
- Manu Crooks – Everyday | I discovered this song on someone’s Vlog on YouTube. It’s a catchy song as well and sometimes the chorus of the song is my anthem of the day.
- Mario – Just a Friend 2002 | A classic that never gets old. It puts a smile on my face every time it comes on. This is one of those songs that you must sing to the top of your lungs. Yes, the original song too. (i.e., “Just a Friend” by Biz Markie)
- Mario – Let Me Love You | One of my favorite songs and always will be. Mario has been one of my favorite artist since the 8th grade and hasn’t gotten old yet. The album itself can still be played without a care in the world. He can actually sing too… *begins to sip Zen tea*
- Mario – I Need More | For some reason, the song reminds me of Halloween. The lyrics are a bit abrasive as well, but I still like the song nonetheless. Maybe it’s because it’s Mario *shrugs*
- A Tribe Called Quest – Electric Relaxation | I recently found this song. I heard of Q-Tip, but I vaguely remember hearing that he was in a group. (Judge me not.) Anywho, I love 80s, early 90s hip hop and this ain’t no different.
- Anderson .Paak – Come Down | This song makes you wanna dance. I first heard the song on the BET Awards. The lyrics make me laugh, but it’s catchy nonetheless. Random Fact: I like songs that also make me laugh.
- Solange – Don’t Touch My Hair | THIS. IS. MY. SONG. From the lyrics to the production, the song is close to perfection for me. My favorite part is when you get to the chorus. As I watched the music video for the first time, the chorus would come on and it makes me want to dance right along with them. Even when I’m not watching the music video, I wanna dance on that part. This song should be anyone’s anthem! A person’s hair is a form of expression and it shouldn’t conform to anyone’s standards but the owner of the hair. Random thought: Since I let go of the creamy crack (i.e., relaxers), I feel like I’ve been an undercover natural hair activist without the full responsibilities of one. (This may not make sense to some people, but it did in my head *lol*) This song is a Hair Anthem. There. I said it *drops mic and walks away*
- Solange – Cranes in the Sky | The production in this song is simplistic. The bass (guitar) caught my attention. I love the production of the song. I’m not gonna lie, I had to look up the lyrics for this song *lol*. I wanna make sure I was hearing it right.
- Mint Condition – Nobody Does it Betta | Mint Condition is one of my favorite bands to date. They haven’t disappointed me yet.
- Yuna ft. Usher – Crush | I heard this on the radio a while ago and I must say that this song is catchy. I like the simplicity of the song. It’s not too much going on in terms of the production of the song. I like it. It’s another “viber”.
- Amerie – Why Don’t We Fall in Love | Another classic. I was a kid when this came out, so I really didn’t pay too much attention to it to say that it was my favorite song back then. As an adult, I can say that I love this song.
- DJ Khaled ft. Nas – Nas Album Done | I like it. The song is catchy. Now usually I don’t pay any attention to a DJ Khaled song (I don’t have a reason…), but I found myself intrigued by this song… Maybe because Nas is on it *shrugs*
- Papoose – Black Love | I love this song… and this couple. This was on repeat for a couple weeks. They became my favorite celebrity couple to date. Black love is beautiful. I think the term “Black Love” can go beyond the love of a man and a woman though – mom/daughter, father/son, brother/sister, grandmother/grandfather, grandpa/grandson, auntie/nephew, best friends, pastor/congregation, people/community etc. Naturally, I hope people don’t take this song as a “anti-love of all colors” type song because I don’t think it’s promoting that at all. It reminds me of the BLM Movement, BET, Centric, Natural Hair movement, or TvONE. To be clear, I think that love has no color and I see it daily. Nevertheless, I still think this is a beautiful ode to his wife. Papoose is an underrated rapper, unlike many of these rappers out today *begins to sip tea*
- Kelly Price – My Time | THIS. IS. MY. JAM!!! This song is encouraging to anyone who hears it. And the production is beautiful! Kelly Price can sing too *begins to sip tea*
- Disclosure – Superego | Okay let’s be honest… I wanted to say the whole album. However, since I’m giving a list of songs and not albums, I chose the latter. I love diclosure’s sound because it’s unique and takes you on a journey when you close your eyes while listening to this whole album.
I don’t limit myself to listening to just one type of music; rather I love many kinds. Music is a beautiful thing. Life would be boring without it. That’s all for now. Thanks for reading and give this playlist a try. Take care!
